The Essence of Jerez, from a Sherry Bodega to a Private Palacio
The Essence of Jerez, from a Sherry Bodega to a Private Palacio
Jerez, is smaller than Seville and quite charming, the local Jerezanos walk upright with great pride and all look terribly elegant and there is a certain air of decay surrounding some of the old palacios and buildings that line the streets, which just seems to add to its charm.
This experience is a great introduction to Jerez and mixes a little of its famous sherry culture with a bit of its fascinating history and the chance to visit an old palacio. The palacio we will visit looks unasuming from the outside but inside is full of rooms that tell the stories of the noble family that have lived here since it was gifted to them by Alfonso X in the 13th Century.
Jerez is probably most famous for its association with the production of sherry wines and the city is full of bodegas that have been here for centuries. Some of them are huge and produce sherry on a large scale, others are smaller and more intimate, focussing on quality rather than quantity. The sherry bodega we will visit is one of the smaller, family owned bodegas that are producing sherry wines of outstanding quality.
Afterwards there is the opportunity to have lunch or tapas in a local restaurant.
